My daughter used this car to make trip to South Dakota in summer. Over heated and they let it cool and added coolant. Seemed to be fine rest of time to SD, there. And back. But now we have this slow coolant loss and no heat in cabin sometimes?

Low coolant will cause you to lose heat. As far as the leak, get a cooling system pressure tester from a parts store and pressurize the system to see if you can locate the leak. You need to get that fixed before other items are checked and repaired. If you are still unable to locate the leak, they make a dye that can be added to the coolant. After driving the vehicle, a blacklight is used to locate leaks. The dye will glow.
