2005 Mazda Tribute engine

my nephew has a 2005 Mazda Tribute that he blew the engine up. I thought I bought the same motor but it turned out to be a 2007 2.3 out of a Mazda 6 the cam gears are not the same timing chain is different so I'm not able to switch the cams because the timing clogs , chain are different.would I be able to take the intake cam off of his and switch the gear to match the newer one?

Not recommended. The lobe tolerances are different.

What can I do to use the motor I have then?

Is there anything else I can do to use the 07 engine in the 05. Thanks any information will help me. I feel like I wasted all of that time ,money now.

We only recommend direct fit parts. I can't say what is needed to make it work.
