I have a question about a 2005 Mazda 6 (3.0L 6 cylinder). The vehicle was running well and then began running really rough, particularly in the 25 - 45 mph range. Engine just seemed to really resist and struggle. A mechanic evaluated the vehicle and said that 3 of the ignition coils are bad. Does anyone have any thoughts on why 3 of the ignition coils would fail right around the same time? Could the car have been running normally with 1 or 2 non-functional and then 3 was just too many to lose? Or should I look for another problem?

If the coils are bad you would have an engine light flashing. Not too uncommon for the 3.0 to have multiple coil failures. If its coils 1 2 3 you will need to remove the intake manifold to acces them. Coils 4 5 6 are under the engine cover. The engine would not run smoothly even if one coil was misfiring.
