Even though they usually work, cigarette lighter outlets aren't designed for power plugs. They're designed for spring-release heating elements with over-heat safety cutouts. Your power plug may not have a long enough center contact, or you may have to rotate the plug to where the ground contacts on the side line up with the contacts in the outlet. It's best to pull the plug straight out, THEN rotate it a little and push it back in. On some cigarette lighter outlets, rotating the plug while it's pushed in will cause a short and blown fuse when the ground contacts on the power plug touch the thermal safety cutout in the outlet. If it still doesn't work, consider having the lighter socket replaced with a standard power outlet.
