2001 elantra was overheating;determined it was the water pump. After replacingthe water pump, the car won't turn over now, starter just clicks. I used (2) intermittent bursts with the starter to loosen the crankshaft bolt. Car was starting fine prior to this. Also if I got the accessory belts to tight could that cause the problem.

Are you able to turn the engine from the crankshaft?
No, the belts won't cause this; however, I question if the engine has locked up due to overheating.

When ignition is turned on the starter will not turnover. I changed starter and solenoid, but problem still exists, does not seem to be getting power.I checked all the regular fuses, they were all good. I checked the old starter after it was removed and it engaged. The new starter will no do anything.

Check fuses and relays undrhood and check if fusible link is blown. Make sure battery is charged and in good shape, and check to see if poweris same at starter/battery

You need to find out what is missing. Try the link below for more information.
Ok here it goes. I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra gls 2.0 4 cyl. My problem started a couple months ago. When leaving my house I would floor the gas and the car would be hesitant and the check engine light would flash buy if I back off some to a certaim point it would accelerate just fine. Did that for a couple weeks then went back running fine with no light. Then after a week it went back doing the same. Tried hooking it to the computer but kept getting unable to connect to vehicle. OBD port has power to #16 pin. Problem kept getting worse and worse. Was hell to accelerate and couldnt hold constant speed in 5th gear. One night on a long drive apparently the vibration was so bad it caused my exhaust to break just after the cat. The cat is only a couple years old. The car finnaly got to where it wouldnt accel on cool mornings untill it warmed up. Gaining speed still sucked afterwards. To get going I had to hold each gear past 4500 rpms to keep from loosing speed on the next gear. I talked to everyone round here. "You got a missfire." I bought new plugs. Nope. Checked for spark ay coil pack and at plugs. Got decent spark everywhere. Still cany read cel. All fuses are good. Idle sucked and sometimes it wouldnt stay on. Turn on the ac during idle it would cut off. A guy said it sounds like its jumping timing. Checked that, timing is good. I was told to fix exhaust maybe it would help. Nope. Spray carb cleaner in tb to get rid of the carbon build up. You will notice a difference. Here's where ut gets good. Did that, sprayed it well and cleaned it with a tooth brush. Crank car it would rev up bc of the cleaner then idle crappy again. Sprayed some more, disconnected battery the look at some electrical parts. Aftet all looked good and connected I hookrd back up battery. You ready for this? I tried cranking again and it would barly turn over hit 500 rpms for a quarter of a second then right back off. Wad told to keep trying to crank to get gunk out it would start back up. I tried until I killed the battery. Hooked up the cables and kept trying. It started getting higher rpms to like 800 and lasted about 1 second. I got it one time to stay on but with gas floored it wouldnt go over 700 to maybe 1000 rpms. It lasted about 30 seconds and ehen I let up on the gas it cut off. I try again now and we are right back at a quarter of a sec and barly 500 rpms. Pleade help me. This is my only mode of trans and I called out of work to try to fix it today. At least bavck to the slow accel.

Will it start and run good for a few seconds if you spray carb spray in the throttle body? Also have you checked the actual fuel pressure yet?

Battery and alternator are working on car. All lights, including dash and headlights turn on; a/c turns on; try to have car 'jumped'; mechanic said that it may be the starter or wiring connecte from ignition to the starter or to the battery. Any suggestions?

If you had a multimeter you could trace power from the switch to the starter and find the problem that way. That is if you were to do it yourself other wise only other choice would be to have it towed some where and have it fixed. Let me know if you want to trace the power.
