We just replaced the battery (dead cell) however at times the starter will drag and not start the engine and other times it starts just fine. There is no clicking sound with the starter which would indicate a bad starter solenoid. Any ideas?

Was the battery that was installed what is required for vehicle? Just because it's new battery doens't mean it 's any good have it load tested. It could also be starter with a dead spot in armature or loose battery connection.

Took it back and did have it tested and its fine. Also double checked to make sure it was factory recommended and all is good.

Check and ensure the ground circuits are clean and secure.
Check the ignition switch.
