My key will fit into the ignition switch but will not turn to start my car. I have removed the ignition assembly and have the lock cylinder in my hand. Can I replace the ignition cylinder for a used one with keys? How will it affect my security and memory in my car? What does it take to reprogram the new key to my ignition system? Any ideas? Thanks!

You cannot use a key from another vehicle as they are programmed to your vehicle and even if you use the control unit out of the other vehicle it will not send the proper signal to the PCM. So the way it works is your key, control unit in the ignition cylinder, and PCM, all share the same codes. When one or two have different codes from a different vehicle, they will not work with each other.

I attached below all the information on this system.

To program a key, you simply need new keys and a computer able to run the process. The computer will access the system and program the keys.
