Hood Latch?

Does anyone know what the length of the small spring attached to the hood release cable is? Mine broke and my hood won't stay down so I'm just going to replace that spring but I'd like to know what the size approximately is.
Thank you!

Yeah I called the dealer. They said I'd have to buy the whole assembly because they don't sell the parts individually. I'm definitely not spending 56$ for something that is just a broken spring.

Then to a hardware store and measure with latch closed then open that should put you close enough. Or get one from a junkyard.

I am unable to open the hood of the ford taurus. Once Open I expect I should be able to repair or replace whatever needs attention but for now I need to know how to release the latch. The cable pull inside the car seems to work ( at least against a spring under the hood from the sound of it ) but I can't get beyond that point

Have somebody push down on hood while you pull cable.

Had pushed and pulled on that hood several times with no luck. This time however, it finally popped open. I Was actually expecting other advice. Good to know I wasn't too far off base. You may have a new customer, will definitely let others know about this site. Thanks for the suggestion.

After operating the latch release a few times everything seemed to be working freely, so put some penetrating oil on the working parts, cleaned up and put very light oil on the hood pistons. Worked things a few times more and expect I've got it taken care of although this may be something to watch out for in the future

The hood latch will not lock the hood closed. The release in the car pulls out and back into place; however, when I press or slam the hood down the latch will not catch and hold. I tried to manually shut the latch by pressing down on the hook with a screwdriver. The latch moves downward but the locking mechanism will not activate.

Hood won't stay latched. Tried WD40 like other websites suggested and that didn't work. Large tight spring is not broken as other sites suggested. While taking the assembly apart, I noticed a small spring that is 1-1/4" tall with a small hook on it (picture enclosed)sticking up from the body? Of the car. I noticed the hook on top was not hooked to anything but the closest thing was the cable. Two questions: 1) was this spring my initial problem? Because it wasn't attached to anything, was it not allowing another part to work properly and thus lock my hood? And 2) since it appears it was attached to the body of the car somehow, can it be replaced?

It is probably the return spring for the release cable.
