A mechanic has told me I need new spark plugs, and new cap because the oil is clogged in my engine. Check engine light came on so I took it in. He quoted me the price of 265.50 - is that reasonable? Should I shop around or is this a price worth getting?

WITH THE "DIAGNOSIS" YOU GAVE, THE "REPAIR PARTS" YOU HAVE DESCRIBED WOULD NOT BE THE "FIX"

MAYBE YOU MIS-UNDERSTOOD THE TECHNICIAN ????.....OR DON'T REMEMBER IT ALL?

MAYBE YOU ARE IN NEED OF THESE REPAIR PARTS, AS PER PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE WHICH MAY BE LONG OVERDUE.............OR MAYBE THESE PARTS ARE TO ADDRESS THE "ENGINE CODE" YOU MENTIONED

...............WITHOUT KNOWING THE CODE NUMBER(S) (EXACTLY)........UNRELATED EXAMPLE "P0442"......WE CANNOT ATTEMPT A DIAGNOSIS ON THIS END ON WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG.........A "HE SAID", "IT WAS THIS OR THAT", DOES NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF THE "CODE NUMBER"

......AS CODES CAN BE INTERPRETED DIFFERENT WAYS....AND COUPLED WITH WHAT THE CAR IS DOING OR NOT DOING (MAYBE WITH DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS OR WATCHING IT 1ST HAND), MIGHT "SWAY" SOMEONE'S INTERPRETATION

AS FAR AS THE "CLOGGING" WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS THAT LED TO TO THAT DIAGNOSIS?

IS THE OIL NOT DRAINING BACK INTO THE CRANKCASE?

MAYBE HE WAS GONNA RUN A FLUSH THRU IT, ALONG WITH DOING THE "TUNE UP" PARTS YOU MENTIONED

IT'S A TOUGH ONE TO CALL, WITHOUT THE FULL STORY

HOWEVER, IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE BEING "MOLESTED" OR YOU ARE NOT "CONFIDENT" WITH YOUR VEHICLE'S "CARE GIVER"..........IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER OPINION!

MAYBE THIS INFO IN THE LINK BELOW MIGHT AID YOU IN FINDING A GOOD ONE.........OPINIONS FROM PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW THE "INs AND OUTs" OF THE INDUSTRY ARE NOT GOOD "ADVICE GIVERS" ............LIKE YOUR NEIGHBOR LADY, OR THE MAN DOWN THE STREET WHO CANNOT CHECK HIS OWN OIL!

"THEY WERE NICE" ...... "THEY WERE INEXPENSIVE"....."THEY FIXED IT RIGHT" (HOW CAN YOU EVEN SAY THIS IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ADJUST THE CONTROLS IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR?)

THIS IS ONE WAY, SORTA NATIONWIDE, THAT I CAN THROW OUT TO ANYONE, THAT COULD "LAND YOU" A GOOD AND REASONABLE MECHANIC........GET ALL THE INFO YOU CAN.....YOU MUST BE THOROUGH AND SELECTIVE IN FINDING THE "RIGHT SHOP"

YOUR TURN
