engine revs high without going anywhere while trying to accelerate sometimes

Hello I have a problem with my Picasso, Whilst driving and I try to accelerate quickly the engine rev high without going anywhere then it settles down and I accelerate. Can anyone help with any advice?

The transmission is slipping. If this is a manual transmission, the clutch is due for replacement.

If it is an automatic transmisison, check the transmission fluid level and condition. If level is correct and fliud condition is dark ans smells burnt, the transmisison needs attention.
