Best way to replace the brake light assembly lens

The gummy product that holds the lens into the assembly has softened and allowed the lens to almost fall out. They are taped onto the van currently to hold in place. I am considering using Loctite Automotive Adhesive (general purpose) or Clear Transparente E-6000.

I understand that this is a common issue. I am just looking for the proper way to reinstall the lens'.
