A problem was detected in the anti-lock brake system so it is deactivated. The traction control makes use of part of the ABS system so it will be off also. A mechanic will connect a scanner to read the stored diagnostic fault code(s) in the ABS system. Those codes will lead him to the circuit or system with the problem, not necessarily the defective part.

You can start by checking the brake fluid level. If it is low, you either have a leak or the front disc brakes may be worn and in need of an inspection or replacement.
