Gas smell coming through the air conditioning unit while I am driving

First of all I wouldn't still be driving it. The cause could be as simple as a leaking injector o-ring or as serious as a cracked fuel rail or ruptured hose. You can search for wet spots on any of those things with the engine not running, but if you do that with a cold engine that has been off overnight, you may need to cycle the ignition switch on for a couple of seconds, then off, to build up fuel pressure that may have bled off.
