The oil pressure gauge does not go below 40 when the engine is off and goes over 80 when engine is running

normal should be 0-40 so your gettin a 40 boost somehow. these vehicles are known for gauge/instrument cluster problems.(GM) you can just live with it or get it repaired.

you could also just install a REAL oil pressure gauge! as yours is a glorified idiot light anyway.
