2005 Chevrolet Tahoe Battery Gauge Started Running Around 19 Way Red Alternator

My battery gauge started running around 19 all the way in the red. My alternator was bought new in november 2011. After I turned truck off for about 20 minutes it went back to around 14 to 15. What could the problem be.

It sounds like a bad voltage regulator. Have the alternator tested at a local parts store. Most can do it on the car and do it for free. If it continues to do that, it will burn up wiring and damage things.
