We have a 2005 Chevy Suburban that has simply quite pulling when put in gear. Fluid levels are fine and there has been no indicators of problems up till now. It will pull for a short time when it has cooled, but when it heats up, no gear is available. I know this will need a shop visit, but we would like to have a guess as to what it might be. And cost.

I heard once that a total fluid exchange on high mileage vehicles could damage transmissions. I was told that with a total fluid exchange, all of the old fluid is pushed through the entire transmission, and debris from the old fluid (i.E. Metal shavings, etc.) Could damage the transmission as it is passed through the system. Is there any truth to this?

The filter will collect the debris. Therefore the filter should be changed too. Since the fluid is moving at a normal pressure, nothing should be moved that otherwise wouldn't move anyhow.

The fluid properties diminish as the fluid is exposed to heat and internal movements. IT SHOULD GET CHANGED! IMHO!

I have seen older Lincolns have a problem brought to the surface when changed. I think it would have happended regardless.

71,000 miles Is NOT high miliage. Not by a long shot!
