banging noise in the transfer case

My 2005 Chevy Suburban 1500 started making a banging noise in the transfer case. I took it out, split it, and everything looks good except for the chain seems loose. Could that cause the noise, and if so is there a way to tighten it?

The question is it possible that the banging noise was from the drive chain being loose.

yes, if the chain is bad enough. did you check the universal joints and motor mounts??
