Replaced battery a couple of weeks ago. Check engine light is on. I assume the computer needs to be reset. However, I then noticed a gas leak and had to repace the fuel regulator valve. After that I did a total gas fill-up. While driving after filing up (approx.10-15 miles) the fuel gauge moves alway over to anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 way towards the "E" mark. Would the check engine light being on and needing re-set somehow contribute to this? If not, what else would cause this?

Some makes and models, if battery voltage is lost, it can cause issues. I try to use memory saver before unhooking battery. Have the trouble codes checked. Some of the national brand autostores used to check trouble codes for free. If you want to check codes yourself, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader that will work with your year--make--model.

I can't tell at the moment if something needs to be reprogramed?

Did the problem with the fuel gage only start after you replaced the battery? Or has it been doing this all a long?
