New battery dead

Shouldn't a battery give a spark if both negative and positives are touched using a screw driver?

You are crazy do that you could have a explosion burn your hand no a very safe thing to do.But yes it would be a big spark buy a cheap multimeter much cheaper then getting hurt or killed.
