whistling sound when driven over 30 MPH

My car is making a whistling sound when I drive over 30mph. It does not make the noise while the car is idling. The noise stops when I stop.

Sounds like its coming from the front of the car. Just had front brake and rotors put on today.

Did the sound change at all? Does the sound change when turning?

The sound hasn't changed with the new brakes. It doesn't change with turning.

That is a tough one without being there. Check to see if there are any vacuum leaks on the engine. They can make a noise like that.

Intermittent wheel squeal / whistle. Probably right front, does not seem to have any real pattern such as cold or hot or speed changes. Does not change when braking and brake pads and calipers are free and look fine. Sound starts with no warning and goes away the same way. Usually lasts for a few minutes at a time and will usually go away for days. Occurs at any speed, all the way from 0 to 60. Every time I have tried to have someone help find the source, it disappears. Anyone else have this and find a cure?

i am having the same issue with my 2006 Pontiac Torrent. I have replaced the brakes and the hub assemblies but it still makes the noise. Does anyone have any suggestions?

So the wheel bearing are new and the brake pads are new. What areas did you lubricate when you replaced the brake pads?
Did you replace the front and the rear?
Does your car have drum brakes on the rear or disc?

Have a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox FWD. It developed a high pitched squeal between 15-55 mph and I initially thought it was a wheel bearing. I had only bought the vehicle used the day before so to say I was upset is an understatement. I removed the front wheel and noticed everything was greased well and the hub assembly looked fairly new for a 2012 model. Upon further inspection I noticed the heat shield plate behind the rotor was bent and pressing against the rotor. I bent the metal back so it was no longer pressed against the rotor and it solved the problem. Not sure if my son had hit a curb or what happened but I was happy to not have to replace the hub assembly. Hope this simple fix helps someone else. Really like this page even if a lot of the comments are older.
