replaced the headgasket now the timing chain is too tight how do I collapse the timing chain tensioner it is fully extended and is pushing the chain guide out too far

Release the tension on the timing chain by moving the tensioner shoe in by hand.
Place a tee in the tensioner to hold the shoe in place.
