why does the car alarm go off when i open the locked car with my key?

We just bought this used cobalt, and it didnt come with a key fob. So, when i lock the car doors via the door panel lock and shut the door-when i try and unlock the car with my key, it sets off the alarm. how do i stop this? i see i can purchase a new key fob-but is it easy to get programmed? please help!

Yes, it is easy to get programmed. You can probably unplug the fuse for the alarm system in the interim.
