When I turn the key to turn on the truck the lights come on but when I try to crank it. It only makes a click noise and nothing else.

You'll have to determine if that clicking noise is coming from the starter itself. If so, it would be a bad starter.

You can also test for power arriving at the purple wire to the starter when the key is held in "start" position.

It's pretty self explanatory. Use a test light at the purple wire at the starter while someone else tries to start it and see if that wire receives power.
