2005 Buick Rendezvous engine power loss

I recently had my spark plugs and new wires put in. The car bogs down totally when I go into second gear and try to accelerate, I have to back off on the pedal, I have noticed that there is a smell of gas when I shut the engine off, don't know if that is related to the issue.
