How old do you have to be to buy a car?

If you're in the U.S. you have to be 18 to sign a contract. Age doesn't matter if you're buying from a private party for cash but I think state laws vary when it comes to registering them. Anyone can legally own a car. You just can't drive it until you have a driver's license.
