Wipers are coming on by themselves and my remote is not working

Windshield wipers came on in the off position and the unlock button on my key remote wasn't working. What could these strange/unusual instances mean?2004 Volvo S40: They would occasionally go on sometimes consistently off & on. Then I stop at the store and when done I pressed the unlock button on my key remote and no response, it wasn't working. I used the metal key to unlock my door. The key started my car fine. What could these strange/unusual instances mean?

For the remote issue I would try replacing the battery but also try using another remote to see if it is the one remote giving you problems are if it is something else? For the wiper issue, did you maybe knocked the switch over to intermittant wipe by accident? Have you had any other problem besides this?
