Engine stalls from apparent overheating

I was told by a mechanic friend at church, that he
believes it is the fuel pump. He said he has done a search and found
that it is a somewhat common problem with my car make/model, etc. I'm almost certain though that it is a heat related issue and the fuel pump is located under the rear seat. Any comments are appreciated as always.

Could be, but I don't think so.

Good news is that it takes 5 min to check the fuel pump current draw
to verify if it is good/bad/questionable. If the mechanic knows how to do so.

I attached a couple of images below. The bad one is the one where the
spikes drop all the way to the bottom.

With a bad pump, if it stops on a "low spot", the pump fails to turn
but can be tapped to start by tapping the bottom of the gas tank while
someone is cranking the engine.

I just obtained the Crankshaft Position Sensor today. I also found this link that confirms that this is the most likely culprit.

I will attempt to install it, hopefully, over the weekend.

At long last, my problem, which has haunted me for many months, has been resolved. I replaced the Crankshaft
Position Sensor with the benefit of a lift at a friends used car dealership's garage. We removed the oil filter for better access and it took a while to get the electrical connector removed, but it was a pretty easy job otherwise. His
mechanic helped me out. I've been driving all afternoon without any
issues.

Also, it occurred to me while driving that the cruise control issue is
probably due to the clutch slipping as the car needs a new clutch.

Thank you for all of your help in resolving this issue. I hope this
thread will help others in the future who might have the same problem.
