wheels

I have a question about wheels. I was given a real good set of wheels and tires that came off a Tahoe and I would like to put them on a Tacoma. Bolt pattern is the same but center hole on the Chevy wheels is smaller than the Tacoma. I have read that Tacoma wheels having a larger center hole is okay to mount on a Chevy but the Chevy wheels won't fit on the Tacoma. My question....can I use wheel spacers, 1/4" thickness. This will bring the mounting surface flush with the hub for a solid mounting surface for the Chevy wheels, and would this be safe. Also, the Chevy wheels take lug nuts with a shank to center the wheel at the lugs, but also an acorn base to seat the lug nuts. I can't find these lug nuts anywhere...the only lug nuts with shanks I find have a washer for a flat mount.
