04 Tacoma 2.4L automatic trans.
Truck runs and idles great. Just noticed this morning with engine cold when I take it from PARK to REVERSE or PARK to DRIVE truck makes a knocking sound. Can't seem to pin pint it's location. Almost has the sound of a loud valve tapping. Does not do it in PARK. Doesn't do it with engine hot. Appreciate your input. Also have no fluid leaks of any type. Thanks,Roy.

Will be glad to donate if your answer corrects my problem, thanks again.

Have the engine mounts checked. When engine is cold, it works at a higher rpm and bad engine mounts can result in shocks when shifting into gear.

After engine is wramed up, the idling speed drops and this would lessen the smount of shicks when shifting into gear so the shock might not be too noticeable.
