The brake light simply means the brake fluid is low. This is either due to the system is leaking or the calipers are extending the piston further to apply the brakes due to the pads being low.
So I would inspect the pads as you are suggesting. Here is a guide that will help with this. However, it may be rear as well so we should check those as well. Here are guides for both front and rear:
Below you will find the process from the manual as well. Please review this material and let's go from there. Thanks

Hi i'm getting uneven wear on my front brake pads passenger side pads seem to be wearing much quicker compared to right side and left alloy always covered in brake dust. I've changed the passenger track rod end three weeks ago and also had my pads changed last week.
Thanks

Check the brake caliper piston and slider bolts for sticking. Jack up front of vehicle and turn the wheel by hand. If it is tight, either the caliper piston or slider bolt is stiff. Torn caliper piston dust cover would be an indication of possible piston sticking.
