I put in a new alternator and have a good battery. Now when I start the engine, all the lights on the dash light up at the same time and the engine is reved up and it will not idle down.

It could ba a wiring fault due to a bad ignition switch or ground circuits. Not going to be easy to check.

Check for bad ground circuits and have the charging system tested.
Did this occur before replacement of alternator?

No it did not. I went to start it one morning and it did not
start so I started with battery. Not the battery and then I
found that the alternator needed to be replaced so I put in
a good used alternator. Last night when I put it in fine. Started the engine this morning and that is what happened.
