Wheel nearly ready to fall off....stopped at the nearest garage...told ball joints shot...my mechanic says he checks these with every oil chang...last one was 2 months ago...should something have been noticed then?

who knows what kind of driving you have done that may have resulted in the failure. 2 months is a long time.

i would get it repaired and move forward.
