2004 Saturn Ion overheating

We recently had to replace the engine and radiator in our car now it keeps overheating. A friend of ours told us there is air in the system somewhere and we just have to let it work it out. Is there a way to get the air out ourselves? All the videos we've seen start with taking the radiator cap off but we only have access to the reservoir cap. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Those engines dont hold onto air pockets they will run hot then the air bubble pops and the engine cools down.Is the radiator fan working correctly?Also hows the thermostat?They usually causes the engine to run too cool when they fail on that engine.Any codes in the computer?

Yes the fan is working I was told by the mechanic that the thermostat was changed but I'm not 100% sure

Yeah those engines dont hold air pockets they will pop themselves even with the coolant bottle cap on.So what coolant temp does the radiator fan come on at?
