2004 Nissan X Trail 2 2tdi Sport 04 Developed Rattle Couple Months Ago Idling

My X-Trail 2.2Tdi Sport 04 developed a rattle a couple of months ago when idling, it remains when the clutch is applied but dissappears when I increase the revs over 1000. I took it to the local transmission specialists who advised me to let it develop some more so it can be diagnosed accurately. It has now started to vibrate when I stop accelerating at high or low speeds. It has been suggested by a different garage it could be a motor problem not gearbox (although it sounds like its coming from the gearbox) Any ideas what this could be?

it sounds like motor from your description.

take it back to the first guy for his opinion. we cannot hear it from here
