cruise control stopped working

My 2004 4 cylinder, auto. cruise control stopped working, along with my brake lights. The "cruise" indicator light comes on, but will not engage. i have checked the basic fuses, under dash and hood, and all looks good. Any other suggestions?

re check all fuses with a test light to verify power. otherwise it sounds like the brake light switch has failed and that is part of the cruise control system

I put in new flashing stop light bulbs and got the same trouble.. removed the new stop light bulbs. all back to normal.
