The spark plugs are under the ignition coils the rear one will be a little harder to replace so take your time. Here is guide to get you started,

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-change-spark-plugs

also if you want to replace the ignition coil this video is very informative.

Check out the diagrams (Below) it shows how it is done on your car. Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Hey cbrooke
Some things to check would be the wires, look for arcing in places where the wire may have "chafed" against something, the back side of the engine is a common spot. I would also recommend you get the car scanned for codes to see which cylinder is misfiring. Let us know

Hi Rachel,

I am going to provide information for a 2004 Mercury Sable 3.0L. If you have the dual overhead cam, it will be the same. I just double checked.

Firing order. 1-4-2-5-3-6

The two pics below indicate cylinder location and coil information for each cylinder.

Let me know if this helps.

Joe

Do you know if you have a dual overhead cam engine or a single overhead came engine? I attached the procedure for the spark plugs. They are the same on either engine.

The belts are different. The SOHC is the first diagram and process and the DOHC is the second.

Here is a video on how to change spark plugs. Clearly it is a different engine but the process is about the same. Also, a guide on how to change spark plugs.
