2004 Mercury Sable seat belt

I removed the rear seat and the seatbelt retracted too far to get it back in, is there a release button on the retractor? Do I have to remove the black cover on the side that does not say "do not remove". thanks

thanks for looking. I pushed on a corner of the retractor and held in with a screw driver, kept working with the belt with different angles compared to normal and it let go after a long struggle. problem solved. Jim
