My car has been sitting in cold weather for 15 days, wouldn't start. battery will be 5 yrs old this summer. I could unlock the vehicle with the key but when I turned it over, there was nothing not even a whimper. I think I need a new battery replacement.

Sounds like you need a battery being 5 years old. Being the vehicle is a Mercedes it is bound to have more electronics which draw on the battery more and the face it was cold, make it hard for an old battery to work well.
