2004 Kia Workhorse gear problem

I put the truck in reverse and backed up but when I tried to put it in 1st gear it would not come out of reverse the truck is stuck in reverse

check for bound up linkage if it has a shifter on top take it off and move the levers to neutral will look like a box when at that point you can do it with a screwdriver also check for worn shifter or parts.
