2004 Kia Rio Just Had Clutch Replaced Now There Screeching Noise Shifting Into

Just had clutch replaced and now there is a screeching noise when shifting into 2nd gear. I was told by mechanic that the gear is bad. Why all of a sudden the noise when it wasn't making the noise before the clutch was changed?

all they do is remove and install the trans when doing the clutch. unless you had other work done.

get a second opinion if you feel better to be sure.
