I have removed the drive shaft and have the alternator completely loose. I am still unable to remove it from the engine compartment. All wires have been removed as well as the upper support bracket from the engine. I have spent several hours trying to move the alternator in every direction. Is there a trick to get the old alternator out?

Yes you will need to remove the engine mount bolts so you can move the engine in a way to give you more room to get the alternator out use a floor jack under the oil pan works great.
