Started knocking and losing power. We have a 2004 Jeep Liberty Renegade 3.7 4wd. Never had a problem with it. Last week engine started knocking (there seemed to be an additional knock when you sped up that you could feel vibrate the gas pedal), losing power, and started smoking (white smoke).

Got the Jeep checked out at parts store via computer. It said there was a problem with cylinder 6. Replaced the plug and coil, but that did not fix the problem. What could this be?

If it is knocking, chances are it is a rod or main bearing. Have a mechanic listen to it.

If it were to be a rod or main bearing, how much are we looking at pricewise?

Most shops recommend to replace the engine because it will require a new crankshaft and bearings.
