Light indictor says it's out of P/T 4WD, but still in. Unless I drive in reverse for a bit, then it's out - Why? and what can I do?

That was a common issue with older vehicles, but yours shouldn't do it. Have you ever serviced the transfer case?

Lets start there. That is the cheapest and easiest fix. Check it first for condition and level. Also, is 10K miles correct?
