My steering seizes

My steering seizes when water gets in the front end on my Hyundai Santa Fe? Mechanic says it is not a belt slipping issue. When i go through puddles & water get into the front right wheel well, my battery & brake warning lights come on and the power steering stops working momentarily.

sounds like water is getting on drive belts causing them to slip.
