My 2004 CR-V has two hoses from the transmission to the radiator. one hose has what looks like a filter or a check valve. What is it? Does the return oil from the radiator cooler return directly to the transmission's oil sump?

I can tell you that they are transmission cooler lines. For running the hot transmission fluid through a cooler that built into the radiator. As for what you the filter to valve if you include a pic I can tell you what it looks like ok.
