A message on the dash board 'check alternator' with a picture of a battery next to the message. This message came up while I was looking for the phone connection cable to the left of console on passenger side. I may have unknowingly tugged on a wire that I should not have touched. Can you help.

Check that the alternator belt hasn't broken.
Next check the charging system fuse.

If both are OK have the charging system tested at a local auto parts store (if that do that in your area), usually its FREE.
