Sorta the same issue with 3.0 '03 Escape
Mine was solved with a new coil pack on #3
2 months of messing with it
Mostly pulling hills with a little pedal--1-2 second bursts of stutter. Just here and there, at other times
No Check Engine Light. No codes. With mine, or the auto part's
store scanners
Other suggestions I had along the way were:
New Plugs--gapped properly, not out of box, and slapped in!
New Plugs--2nd set Motorcraft, not Autolite
New boots and springs on coil packs--possible fire jumping thru a cracked boot
New air filter
Clean MAF
Replace MAF
Clean EGR
New EGR
New TPS
Clean IAC
New IAC
5,000,000 Vacuum Leak Searches
200,000 pinched wires/ messed up wire searches
Almost wore out the connector, on my scanner!
Multiple fights with Wifey who drives it
Made Multiple attempts to get the Tech School to do a ride around with their Super Computer.$25 Donation!
Fell thru each time---Drama within the Department
IT WASN'T GONNA WHOOP ME!
Attempted to "OBTAIN" a salvage yard used coil pack (I was gonna swap it thru the system, till I found "THE ONE"),
This led the salvage yard owner to scan for codes with a better scanner. NONE!
. His scanner did pick up a "STORED CODE".#3!
Spent about $80 more for a new one
FIXED!
I did not mind the expense along the way. CHEAPER THAN A SHOP FOR ONE ISSUE.I performed multiple operations!
I now have updated parts on a 100,000 mile vehicle. PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE!
I NOW HAVE SPARES FOR FUTURE TESTING!
IT DID NOT WHOOP ME!
