What indicates it's shifting through all the gears? If there's no grinding or clunking noises associated with a failure to move, the most common cause is a half shaft that has pulled out of the transmission, and on Ford front-wheel-drive products that is most often caused by a separated lower ball joint. The steering and suspension systems should be inspected about once a year, and any time you hear a clunking or rattling noise.

Check if both front wheels are sitting correctly or if one is leaning a lot or turned to one side.
