engine will start but won't stay running

My 2004 ford ranger will turn over and crank but then it dies i am thinking it could be the fuel filter or fuel pump? what do you think it could be?

Do you have a check engine light?

Check the fuel pressure with a gauge if its within specs if okay check the IACV and EGR valve
