2004 Ford Ka gears

My Ka will not go into 5th gear. I have recently had my slave cylinder changed and have been informed that my gearbox may now need replacing.

When I attempt to put the car into 5th it automatically goes into neutral if I hold it in place it crunches but then stays in 5th

PLEASE HELP

we have no info on these cars as they are not in U.S. but, see if it will go into gear with the engine off. If it does then that will eliminate the cables/shifter etc. it sounds like your synchro may be bad however or the shifter could be out of adjustment. I am assuming you have checked the fluid level as well. Other than that if it's a synchro then it will needto be replaced/overhauled.
